Adding Files

Galleries can contain any number and combination of images, videos, and PDFs. The only limitations are the formats that can be displayed and the available space on the iPad. Portfolio stores its own internal copies of all content loaded in, so it's safe to remove the source files after they've been loaded.

Adding Photos, Videos, and PDFs

Select the gallery to load into in the left column.

1. Tap on the add button at the top left of the right column. It looks like a landscape photo.
2. Select the source to load the content from. Each source has its benefits and weaknesses, so consider which will work best for your collection.
3. Select all of the items to add and tap the "Add" button.

Camera Roll

This option allows you to add images and videos from your iPad's library. It includes both the photos and videos stored by you and those added via the Photos tab in iTunes.

File Sharing

When your iPad is connected to your computer, you can select it in iTunes to bring up its settings. Click on the Apps tab at the top, then scroll down to the File Sharing section and click on Portfolio. You can add any number of files here to load, and once you sync up with your iPad, they'll be available for choosing.

URLs

Paste in a list of URLs and Portfolio will load in each of them sequentially. Because this involves multiple network downloads, it's best to avoid using this on 3G. It's susceptible to network connection interruptions but in practice these are fairly rare. The URLs must point to the actual image, video, or PDF files and not a directory.

Dropbox

Dropbox is an internet-based service that, when installed, keeps your Dropbox folder in sync across all devices paired to the same account. Portfolio is able to see any image, video, or PDF file in your Dropbox. This method is often one of the easiest to add in items, but keep in mind the bandwidth from the Dropbox server is limited and can be slower with very large files.

Box

Box is an internet-based service that, when installed, keeps your Box folder in sync across all devices paired to the same account. Portfolio is able to see any image, video, or PDF file in your Box. This method is often one of the easiest to add in items, but keep in mind the bandwidth from the Box server is limited and can be slower with very large files.

Mac

If you're using a Mac, you can load files into Portfolio across your local network. This method allows the much more powerful computer do the majority of the preprocessing, letting you load in images without needing to tether and without having to have an internet connection available.

This loading method requires the Portfolio Loader program to be running on your Mac and for it and the iPad to be connected to the same network.

SFTP

Portfolio can connect securely via SFTP to a server you control to load in its content. This can be an excellent choice for companies with remote employees that need to update content.
